TanzPay
Low-fee mobile payments infrastructure for East Africa, born from noticing 5-12% transfer losses on everyday mobile money transactions.
View project →The observation was small. Paying via mobile money in Tanzania, I noticed 5 to 12 percent of the transferred amount disappearing in fees depending on the sum. I had learned to accept it. Then I was back in India paying through UPI, near-zero fees, instant, seamless, and the contrast stopped being easy to ignore.
The question was not why mobile money in East Africa was expensive. The question was why the people least able to absorb those losses were the ones paying them most consistently.
I brought the idea to my father, who has since taken it on as his primary venture. I worked on the technical architecture and oversaw early development. TanzPay is currently navigating legal and regulatory processes and is set to launch mid-2026.
